Chapter 18 - Amidst the Storm

Carl's head was spinning. As he lay unconscious on the hangar floor, his mind raced with unknown voices.
"This is your fault" one snarled in his ear.
"If it wasn't for you...." another announced.
Carl's mind suddenly burst into an image. The very image he wanted to eliminate from his thoughts.
Hannah pinning Natasha to the wall. He could only watch as Natasha fought for air. Then, the scene changed... it was Carl's hand around Natasha's neck. He heard her breathing become more rapid before he raised his other hand and trapped her in ice.
"NO!" Carl shouted inside his head, "THAT ISN'T WHAT HAPPENED!" His voice strained slightly as he forced down a lump in his throat. "I DIDN'T DO THIS!"
"It might as well have been" A voice said. "You interfered."
"NO!" Carl's eyes welled up "I DIDN'T" He clutched his head and shook it violently. "I....NO...." The tears that Carl had been keeping back rolled down his cheeks and pattered softly onto the ground. In his mind, he saw himself collapse onto the ground, showing no end to his emotion. "You....you...you can't blame me." He sobbed. "THIS WASN'T MY FAULT" He screamed.
"How can you be so sure?" Questioned the voice. "Had you have run, you could have fetched Sonic and the others to help Natasha, but you had to act like a hero and help Natasha alone".
The voice changed.
"You are nothing, and that is all you will ever amount to."
He recognized it, as a shadowy figure walked up to him. It was Katy!
"W...What? No...This...isn't real." Carl said in disbelief.
"Really?" Katy said. "You think that when you wake up that everything will be as it was?"
The figure changed to Shadow.
"You have disappointed me" He said, "Me, and everyone else."
"Shadow...." Carl started, but the figure changed to Hannah. "You?!"
"You were so weak." She taunted, "I could've killed you like that." She snapped her fingers."
"NO!" Carl yelled, the tears still streaming down his face. "YOU'RE WRONG....ALL OF YOU..."
"Are we?" The figure changed back into its formless state. "Or are we making you see sense?"

"Carl?"
A more familiar voice entered his ears.
"Carl?" It was Sonic. "You OK there buddy?"
He opened his eyes. He was in the medical centre on the base. A storm was raging outside, sending blue lightning across the deep purple clouds.
"You had us worried!" Sonic said.
Carl tried to get up, but found himself chained to the bed.
"What the?" Carl said.
"Chaos Nightmare." Shadow said, walking towards him. "Your body went out of control after we bought you down here. Usually "Nightmares" are triggered by a strong urge to something or correct a problem, when you know that you cannot do anything."
"Which in your case, would be to help Natasha." Sonic said as he unchained Carl. "But because you couldn't do anything, your body started to spasm by the extreme amount of Chaos Energy surging through you. So we had to chain you down to stop you hurting yourself and everyone else."
"I...see..." he said. He tried to get up but screamed in pain.
"Hey, hey.... take it easy Carl." Sonic said alarmed. "Those aren't some grazes you have, those cuts are deep."
"I have asked Amy to watch over you while we continue to train Katy." Shadow explained.
Amy walked over to Carl and sat down. She put her hand on his head and stroked his head softly.
"Are you OK?" She said. It was obvious that she had been crying.
"I'm...still alive aren't I?" He smiled weakly.
"If you are alive after an encounter with Hannah that means you have something that she wants." Shadow said gravely.
"Probably the same thing we are." Sonic nodded slowly. "Which is not good. This means that she could be working for Eggman."
"Is that bad?" Amy enquired.
"Worse than you could imagine." Sonic said.
Carl said nothing; he just lay and watched the storm outside the window.
"Alright, we'll leave you in Amy's capable hands." Sonic said as he walked towards the door. Amy, could you come here a second?"
Amy followed Sonic and Shadow towards the door.
"I don't know what's happened to him, but he isn't the same." Shadow said in a low voice.
"He probably thinks that it's his fault that Natasha was taken." Sonic nodded."
"That reminds me, do we know where Hannah was headed?" Shadow enquired.
"Yeah, she went back to her castle on Ice Ridge. There's no way we can get her as we are now.... this must have been her plan all along.... divide and conquer..." Sonic said gravely.
"But what happened down there that could make him like this?" Amy asked.
"You need to find that out." Shadow said, as they left the room.
Amy went back and sat over by Carl.
"Hey" Amy said.
Carl still stared out into the storm.
"You OK?" She said, as she waved her hand in front of Carl's face.
"Huh?" Carl stared at Amy for a few seconds. “Sorry Amy, I just don’t feel right at the minute.”
Amy shook her head. “There’s no need for you to be sorry Carl.” She looked into his eyes; they were welling up with tears again. “What’s wrong?” She asked.
“It…..It’s…” Carl took a deep breath as he forced down the lump in his throat. “It’s my fault that Hannah took Natasha.”
“No, Carl… It’s” Amy started, but Carl interrupted
“Yes Amy. If I had just run like Natasha told me to, then maybe she would still be here.” He turned his head away from Amy and let his tears fall onto the bed. “It’s all my fault he said, fighting through the tears.
“Carl….It wasn’t your fault… You did what you though was right. You tried to help Natasha fight Hannah. Even though Natasha was taken, you did your best, and that’s all you could have done.”
“But my best wasn’t good enough Amy.” Carl sobbed. “Natasha has gone…. Who knows what Hannah is doing to her now…. “
“Carl…stop it.” Amy said, with tears in her eyes. “Stop blaming yourself. You couldn’t have helped any more than you did. Even Sonic said so.”
“Really?” Carl asked. He turned back to face Amy again. “He said that?”
“Yeah…. He did Carl.” Amy smiled at him. “He thinks very highly of you. He knows that you can help us more than you helped with Natasha… you just can’t yet… you need more training.”
“I know…. I need to get back to my training.” Carl said.
He tried to get up again but cried out in pain like he had before.
“Carl, you can’t go yet.” Amy said, holding his hand. “You need to let your wounds heal first.”
“I can’t lie here and…..do nothing.” He said.
“Tell me what happened.” Amy said. “That way we’ll find out how Hannah managed to take Natasha.”
“The only reason she managed to overpower us is because of that Emerald….” Carl said.
“Wait….emerald?” Amy asked…. “Not a Chaos Emerald?!”
“Yeah.” Carl said… “Why?”
“Carl… have you told Sonic about this?” Amy asked.
“No… you’re the first person I’ve told about it.”
“Right then.” She said and leapt off the chair and ran out of the room.

Many miles away at the Ice Ridge, Hannah was finally claiming what she had wanted.
She placed the block of ice containing Natasha inside one of the large crystals on the castle walls. She closed the small door on the front of the crystal and froze the outside of the crystal with a thin, but strong layer of ice.
She raised her hand and unfroze Natasha. She instantly fell to the bottom of the crystal.
“What….YOU!” Natasha cried from inside the crystal. “Let me out of here now!”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that.” Hannah smirked. “Welcome to your prison Natasha.”
“Why did you bring me here?” Natasha snarled.
“This is why.” Hannah walked over to a small indent in the wall and pressed a button. With a flash of green light, an icy arm appeared inside the crystal and quickly attached a black collar to Natasha’s neck. It instantly shocked Natasha’s body with a large amount of Chaos Energy.
Natasha screamed and fell back to the bottom of the crystal.
The arm then released a thick black fluid into the crystal, before it fished around the liquid and pulled out Natasha’s Battle Suit.
The liquid solidified in the shape of the Battle Suit, but it was completely black.
“And now, you are in my control.” Hannah said triumphantly, “And your suit belongs to me.”
“I don’t think so.” Natasha smirked as her eyes grew fiery. The collar sent another huge shockwave through her body and she collapsed unconscious in the bottom of the crystal.
“Did I forget to mention?” Hannah smiled evilly, “When you try to use your power, you will be automatically shocked and you will be unable to continue using your power.”
She pressed another button and the arm reappeared outside of the crystal and released the Battle Suit.
Hannah quickly left the room and returned wearing the Battle Suit.
“Yes.” She cried, “I feel the power…. You had better watch yourself Carl… Hannah’s coming for you.”
She laughed maniacally and it echoed all through the Ice Castle and out onto the Ice Ridge as the thunder and lightning crashed and flashed across the Mobian skyline.

well we have some exciting news, another person asked if their characters could be in ETG!
Im really pumped.
I have got to be doing something right to be getting a response like this!!!

C19 is coming, it isnt started yet, but i swear it is coming.
