ENTER THE GAME
Chapter 1 - Shocking Stuff!!
Carl reached over and looked at his clock. 7am. Not exactly the best time to be waking up after a night at work, but he had no choice in the matter. He stretched and yawned before standing up, putting on his glasses and switching off the alarm. A thunderstorm was raging outside and loud thunderclaps were shaking the window
“Ah, man… Time for college already?” Carl said to himself. He looked around his room and allowed his eyes to adjust to the light. “I am never working that late again…ever.” He said, again to himself.
He grabbed his clothes and headed to the bathroom. Pushing the door open there was a shout from downstairs.
“CARL! Your lecturer is on the phone!” It was his mom.
“Yeah, I’m coming.” Carl said drearily.
Carl stumbled into his mom’s room and picked up the other phone.
“Got it mom” Carl said into the phone. He made sure that his mom wasn’t listening and then spoke to his lecturer.
“Hello?”
“Hello Carl, it’s Karen from Tamworth College, I’m just ringing to let you know that you can’t come into college this morning because the building has flooded again.”
“Again? Oh well... at least I can go back to be…I mean back to my work."
“Well make sure you get it done, I’ll be letting everyone know about whether to come in tomorrow, but to be safe, assume that you are. Goodbye”
“Bye.”
Karen hung up and Carl put the receiver back.
“MOM! College got cancelled, I’m going back to bed.”
There was no answer.
“Must’ve taken Lisa to school.” He said to himself.
Carl walked back into his room and closed the door behind him. He dumped his clothes back into the wardrobe and jumped back onto his bed and pulled the covers back over his head. A loud clap of thunder rumbled overhead and Carl sat bolt upright in his bed.
“Ah, forget this. I’m never gonna be able to get back to sleep in this!”
Carl rolled over and faced his TV. He looked beside him and saw his GameCube controller.
“Eh, why not?”
Carl sat up and turned on his GameCube.
More thunder and lightning rumbled and flickered outside his window, but it seemed louder than ever.
As the GameCube loaded up, Carl stared out the window. The number 8 bus came to a stop outside, picked up a couple of people and then departed. Forked lightning came down from the sky, and seemed to shatter the blackened sky into pieces. Carl then looked back at his TV; on it was the Sonic Heroes title screen.
“Now, let’s get to it!” Carl shouted over the thunder.
He turned up the volume and started playing.
Carl seemed oblivious to the thunder and lightning outside and just lay there playing intently, but then something happened.
A bolt of lighting hit the aerial on top of the house and a power surge shot through the house. Carl dropped his controller at the loud noise from the roof, but as soon as he picked it back up, he was shocked right through his body from his controller.
He was thrown back against the wall and hit the floor hard and lay there.
He wasn’t moving.
Chapter 2 - Second Storm Strike!!
Katy lay awake on her bed. She had been unable to sleep all night and eventually decided to get up and do something before she had to go to college at noon. She looked at her clock and saw that it was just past 6.
“Only 6 hours to go.”
She picked up her phone and sent a text message to her boyfriend, Carl, before getting up and going down to make herself some breakfast. Her house seemed quiet for some reason, but then a loud clap of thunder made her jump and drop her tea on the floor. She bent down and picked up all the larger pieces of her mug and then swept up the smaller pieces before mopping up the tea mess.
“What’s wrong with me today? It’s only some thunder. Must be still half asleep!”
She smiled to herself and went into the dining room and sitting down to eat her breakfast before going back to her room. She looked at the clock again. 630: she had killed only half an hour.
“This could get boring…”
She reached for her phone. She had no messages.
“He probably isn’t up yet” She smiled at the thought of him lying in bed asleep before she looked at her TV.
“Well, I suppose I should do something.”
She turned on the TV and started watching a video as a thunderclap boomed over the house and sheet lightning lit up the sky in the west.
“This storm is really something. I hope he’s OK.” She looked out of the window and thought to herself.
She picked up the remote and turned up the volume, just as a bolt of lighting caused the power to surge. The surge leapt from the TV to the remote and shocked Katy badly. She was thrown out of her bedroom door and hit the opposite wall hard before sliding down the door and lying in a heap, not moving.
Chapter 3 - Where Am I??
"Don't you think that storm was a little strong?"
"No. It was perfect, although, their DNA has been altered slightly in the transition."
"But what does that mean?"
"I don't know yet. We must see what effect it has when they wake up. I wonder whats keeping him though?"
Carl opened his eyes to see 3 blurred figures standing over him.
One was black, one orange and one red.
"Ugh...what happened?" Carl said wearily
The figures began sliding into focus and Carl let out and yell.
The three figures looked all too familiar to him.
An orange fox, a black hedgehog and a red echidna.
"This...has to be....you can't be...but....how?" Carl stuttered..
"Take it easy." the fox approached him "We'll explain soon enough. Now you must rest."
"But are you really...who I think you are?"
"That depends on who you think we are." The black hedeghog took a step forwards so he was partially in the light. On his spines were long red streaks.
"You" Carl said, pointing to the black hedgehog. "are Shadow The Hedgehog. You were created by Professor Gerald Robotnik on the Space Colony ARK as the Ultimate Lifeform and was sent to Earth after the military landed on the ARK, where...."
Carls voice trailed off. What he was going to say was "where Maria was killed." but thought better of it.
"Where you were awoken by Doctor Eggman and he tried to use the power of the ARK's Eclipse Cannon to destroy the world....but he failed."
"That is correct Carl." Shadow approached him stepping into the light streaming from the skylight. "Therefore, if you know me, then you are certain to know these two as well." Shadow indicated the fox and echidna behind him.
"Of course...Tails...and Knuckles....."
They both nodded slightly.
"But..where am I...and why are you here?"
"You are now on the planet Mobius." Tails said.
"But i thought that Mobius and the Earth were the same planet!" Carl exclaimed.
"Not quite" Knuckles said gravely "They are indeed in the same location, but they are in parallel universes."
"OK...I understand that....what I don't understand is how I got here."
"You have me to thank for that." Shadow raised his hand slightly. "I created a Chaos Storm in your world to knock you out so I could use Chaos Control to warp you to our world."
"Yeah..thanks for that Shadow...." Carl looked at him angrily, but seeing the hedgehogs face, he laughed.. "It's ok..don't worry." Carl thrust out his hand towards Shadows and shook his hand.
"But theres one more thing I don't get.... I heard you talking about another person....who is it and where are they??"
"Well you see.....we had to bring someone who meant a lot to you in order for you to help us...but we lost her somewhere over the Forbidden Forest..., Sonic is out there looking for her now..." Tails spoke looking down at his feet.
"Her? Who is it?" Carl looked puzzled.
"It is your girlfriend Katy."
Carl stood up quickly but fell over.
"Ugh" He hit the ground hard, but was quickly helped up by Knuckles.
"Take it easy, you had some force shocked through you."
Kncukles carefully placed Carl back onto the bed and Shadow stepped forward.
"We...we have to do something....we have to find her.." Carl said wearily
Shadow placed a hand on Carl's shoulder. "Its ok, Sonic is doing all he can to find her."
"But what can we do? I have to help too!!"
"There is nothing we can do until Sonic gets back from the Forest. Until then you need to rest up, we have work to do when he does return."
"Work? What....work?" Carl yawned and closed his eyes.
"We'll tell you soon enough Carl. But please rest. You will find out your reason for being here in due time. "Shadow looked down to him before slowly walking away.
Tails and Knuckles looked at each other before sitting back down and watching Carl sleep.
"We have to tell him sooner or later Tails. We don't know how much of our conversation he heard." Knuckles spoke quietly so not to wake Carl.
"I know....but he needs to rest, if he doesn't then he won't be prepared."
Chapter 4 - I've Got To Help Her!
Many miles away, Katy woke up and surveyed her surroundings. She appeared to be in a dense forest. It was very dark and she could barely see anything. All she could see was more trees and thick vines at her feet.
“Where am I?” She wondered.
As she tried to get up, she slipped over on one of the vines. Katy tried again, this time using a nearby tree as a support.
She looked upwards and saw several large leaves blocking most of the light.
“What happened?”
Suddenly, there was a noise; a strange noise. Katy turned around and tried to see where it was coming from. It sounded like the wind, except there was nothing moving to show that it was wind.
She turned around and started to run away from the noise, but it seemed to be coming right at her. All of a sudden, she was hit by something hard and hit the ground. Whatever it was had its hand out to her.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Let me help you.” It spoke!
As Katy looked up she saw a blue hedgehog. She screamed and went to run but fell over again.
“Hey, hey, hey! I’m not gonna hurt you! I’m with you… You must be Katy, right?”
“H…How do you know my name?” Katy stammered.
“Well… We brought you here.” Said the hedgehog
“Well, who are… “We?”” Katy enquired.
“Well, for a start, my name is Sonic the Hedgehog.” Sonic smiled at her.
“No…it can’t be. You… you can’t be real!” Katy looked stunned
“Well, I am, and so is everyone else from the world you know…” Sonic began.
“Well, I don’t know you.” Katy looked down “My boyfriend does though!”
“I know. That’s why I need you to come with me. Carl is with us!” Sonic held out his hand and pulled Katy back up again.
“Carl….he’s….here?” Katy looked straight into Sonics’ eyes. “This isn’t a joke is it?”
“No, it isn’t.” He smiled at her before pulling a radio out of his bag “Just gimme a sec” and he winked at Katy. She smiled at him.
“Tails? This is Sonic. I’ve found her!”
“Sonic, is she alright?” Tails voice seemed relieved.
“I think so… You are ok right?” Sonic asked Katy.
Katy nodded slowly.
“Yeah, she’s fine. Don’t worry.”
“Well get back here quickly! We have to start training as soon as possible” Tails seemed worried.
“No problem. Lucky I bought my board with me, or it would take longer. Sonic out.
“Well, it looks like we have to get our skates on… or in this case, my shoes and hoverboard. Sonic smiled and Katy as he pulled out a small board. He pushed a button on it and it extended into a sort of snowboard.
“Just step on here and hold my hand tight…it’ll go fast so don’t let go unless I tell you ok?”
“OK,” Katy said, before she stepped onto the board.
Sonic bent down and fastened the boot straps and then stood next to Katy and held her hand tightly.
“You ready?” He looked at Katy.
“I…I think so.” Katy looked very pale…She had no idea what was going to happen.
Sonic pushed another button and the board hovered a few inches off the ground.
“HERE WE GO!” Sonic shouted and took off at an unimaginable speed, with Katy clinging to Sonic’s hand.
“Are you alright?” Sonic shouted
Katy didn’t answer she just looked straight at Sonic and tried to smile but it looked like she was going to be sick.
“I’ll take that as a “yes” then…” Sonic laughed. “Get ready, we’re almost at the base.”
“O…OK….” Katy shouted.
“LET GO!” Sonic yelled at her.
Katy let go immediately and Sonic tore off around a corner and into a hole in a tree.
“Katy can you hear me?” Sonics voice seemed to be coming from the board!
“Just about. Where did you go? What do I do?” Katy was now very nervous.
“Don’t worry. This is the fun part. In a second you will see a large tree with a red X on it. Run into it.”
“RUN INTO IT?” Katy screamed “ARE YOU CRAZY??”
“Trust me. I know what I’m doing”
“OK… but if this goes wrong…”
“It won’t, I promise.”
Soon enough, Katy saw the tree. She closed her eyes and went straight into it.
Chapter 5 - Rescued!
Katy blasted into the tree and into a secret passageway.
“What the? He was right!” Katy shouted to thin air.
“Of course I was right!” Came Sonic’s voice from beside her. “I believe this is your stop!” Sonic smiled at her and grabbed the bottom of the board and stated to slow it down. As they came to a stop Sonic released the straps.
“Good job we didn’t have to go through the Canyon, or else you would’ve been facing a huge jump!” Sonic told her.
“Well…..thanks Sonic.” Katy said
“What for?” Sonic enquired.
“Finding me and bringing me here of course!”
“Well… it’s no trouble. It’s what we all do!”
“Who are all of you?”
“Heh, I forgot you don’t know anyone here. Except for Carl anyway.”
“Can I see him?” Katy asked.
“I am afraid not Katy.” Came another voice. “He was badly affected by the storm, so he is resting.
As Katy turned around to face the speaker she let out a small scream.
“Do not be alarmed. I won’t hurt you.”
“Shadow! What did I tell you about jumping out on people?”
“My apologies Sonic. I only came to meet our new recruit.”
“Recruit? What are you talking about?” Katy looked shocked.
“We’ll tell you when Carl wakes up. But first you must meet everyone else.”
“There are more of you?”
“Quite a few of us! We need people to help us stop Eggman, so if we find anybody willing to help we sign them up!”
“Ok then. But I don’t see how Carl and I can help?”
“You will see soon enough.” Shadow told her “Now come on, we need to get your quarters sorted out, and you need to meet everyone.”
Chapter 6 - Meeting The Freedom Fighters
"So why did you bring me here anyway?" Katy enquired to Sonic.
"We can't tell you yet." He said
"We will tell you when Carl wakes" Shadow replied
"How long do you think he will need?"
"We don't know for sure. We just need him to take it easy. It seems that the storm we created to bring you here worked a little too well on him." Shadow said.
"Too well? What do you mean? Or can't you tell me that either?" Katy asked
"Well we could, but then we would have to explain it to Carl too.. so if we wait you can learn together.. all I will say is that it is of some great importance that you were brought here." Shadow seemed to be deep in thought over something. Katy didn't want to interfere.
"So who else is here that Carl "knows"?" Katy smiled at Shadow, but Shadow just turned away.
"Well, as far as we know, Carl has at least some information on every Freedom Fighter here!" Sonic told her "But we'll introduce you to everyone so you know who we are, but... they are all like us."
"What do you mean?"
"They are all anthropomorphs"
"I get it... that doesn't bother me.. well, it used to but it doesn't now." Katy smiled at Sonic and Sonic smiled back.
"Here we are" Shadow said making Katy jump. It had been some time since he spoke.
They walked into what seemed like a large hall from the outside, but inside was a series of rooms.
"We'll take you round everyones' rooms and introduce you, then we will take you to where you will be staying, OK?" Sonic said.
"Thats fine with me Sonic!" Katy seemed excited.
"So this is Amy's room." Shadow knocked on the door. There was no reply.
"Amy? You in there?" Sonic shouted through the door.
All of a sudden there was a yell from behind them.
"SSSOOONNNIIICCC!"
And in a blur of pink something attached itself to Sonic hugging him tightly.
"Ha, I new you would come back!"
"Amy..I told you we were coming back later...." Sonic sighed
"I know but.. " She looked at Katy "Is this who you said?" Amy asked
"Yeah. Amy, this is Katy, Katy this is Amy Rose."
Amy straightened herself up and shook hands with Katy.
"Thank you for coming to help!" Amy said gratefully.
"She doesn't know what with yet Amy, were still waiting for Carl to wake up. Which reminds me, can you go check on him for me?" Sonic asked.
"Anything for you Sonic" Amy said dreamily before she walked off towards a large door.
"You can see Carl later Katy, OK?" Sonic said taking Katy's hand again.
"Ok Sonic." Katy said smiling.
"Let's see then. This is Knuckles' room."
Sonic knocked on the door and waited. Then a voice called to them.
"Sonic, is that you?"
"Yeah, its me Knuckles, let us in. There's someone you have to meet."
Standing at the door was a red echidna with big gloves on.
"You must be Katy, right?" Knuckles said.
"Thats right." Katy said shaking his hand "How do you know my name?"
"Carl told us about you when we said you were missing. Then he went back to sleep. In fact the last thing he said was about helping to find you."
"He did?" Katy smiled. "He is so sweet." She continued smiling.
"Well, we hate to do this Knux, but we've got to get round the rest of the Freedom Fighters before nightfall. See ya 'round."
"See ya later Sonic" Knuckles said before closing his door.
"Um, Sonic, what is that?" Katy pointed to a row of boards which seemed to be covering a large hole.
"Oh." Sonic laughed "Knuckles doesn't know his own strength sometimes." Sonic imitated punching and something falling. "He smashed right through the wall and the pieces landed on top of Shadow.. we laughed for days.
"Correction Sonic, YOU laughed for days... I didn't." Shadow said angrily.
"Whatever Shadow...That reminds me... I don't think that you and Shadow have been properly introduced! Shadow, Katy. Katy, Shadow."
"Nice to meet you Shadow."
"Likewise" Shadow shook Katys' hand sharply. "You will have to excuse me Sonic, I have things to do." And with that he just vanished.
"Where...How?" Katy looked around.
"Don't worry. We'll explain later. I think that Tails' is the only room left to visit. All the others are on a mission in the training room."
Sonic reached the third door in the room and knocked on it. There was a strong smell of oil in the air.
"Tails, its me!" Sonic called.
"Great, I have something to show you!" A young boys voice came back through the door.
As the door opened, Katy saw a young fox with two tails.
"Hey Tails, this is Katy. Katy. This is Miles Prower.. but all his friends call him "Tails""
Katy shook Tails' hand
"So which do I call you then?" Katy asked.
"You are helping us, so you're my friend" Tails grinned. "You call me Tails!"
"OK Tails. Er, what's that?" Katy pointed to a helmet on the table of Tails house...but it looked more like a workshop.... tools, pieces of metal and wood lay everywhere.
"That? Thats is for the training room. Thats what I need Sonic for. I'm having problems with the system..It wont lign up with the other helmets... I wondered if i could use some of your tools?"
Sonic looked at Katy
"Tails and I are the resident mechanics... we fix and make things to help us against Eggman." He said, before turning back to face Tails "Sure buddy, I don't mind!"
"Thanks Sonic! I'll go fetch them now!" Tails smiled at him before running off with his twin tails rotoring away behind him.
"While we're at it, why don't you see my room too, then I'll see what's keeping Amy."
"Ok Sonic, you lead the way." Katy said
Sonic lead Katy through a passageway and out into a small corridor with only 3 rooms in it.
"The one on the left is yours, the one on the right is Carl's and the middle is mine." Sonic explained... Don't worry if you cant find it, I'll give you and Carl maps for the complex later.
"Can I see my room then?" Katy asked excitedly.
"Sure." Sonic handed her a card. "This will get you into Carls, yours and my rooms. Just in case anything happens ok?"
"OK Sonic." Katy took the card and headed to her room.
She walked up to the door and it opened automatically.
Katy gasped.
Her room seemed so small on the outside, but inside it was huge. There were various pieces of equipment marked "DO NOT TOUCH" written on them and her bed with a window looking out onto everyone elses rooms.
There was a knock at the door.
"May I come in?" It was Shadows' voice.
"Of course Shadow!"
The door opened and Shadow stood in the doorway. He seemed different.
“What’s wrong Shadow?”
“Nothing, but I thought you ought to know… Carl has woken up and he is asking for you.”

"But i thought that Mobius and the Earth were the same planet!" Carl exclaimed.
"Not quite" Knuckles said gravely "They are indeed in the same location, but they are in parallel universes."
"OK...I understand that....what I don't understand is how I got here."
"You have me to thank for that." Shadow raised his hand slightly. "I created a Chaos Storm in your world to knock you out so I could use Chaos Control to warp you to our world."
"Yeah..thanks for that Shadow...." Carl looked at him angrily, but seeing the hedgehogs face, he laughed.. "It's ok..don't worry." Carl thrust out his hand towards Shadows and shook his hand.
"But theres one more thing I don't get.... I heard you talking about another person....who is it and where are they??"
"Well you see.....we had to bring someone who meant a lot to you in order for you to help us...but we lost her somewhere over the Forbidden Forest..., Sonic is out there looking for her now..." Tails spoke looking down at his feet.
"Her? Who is it?" Carl looked puzzled.
"It is your girlfriend Katy."
Carl stood up quickly but fell over.
"Ugh" He hit the ground hard, but was quickly helped up by Knuckles.
"Take it easy, you had some force shocked through you."
Kncukles carefully placed Carl back onto the bed and Shadow stepped forward.
"We...we have to do something....we have to find her.." Carl said wearily
Shadow placed a hand on Carl's shoulder. "Its ok, Sonic is doing all he can to find her."
"But what can we do? I have to help too!!"
"There is nothing we can do until Sonic gets back from the Forest. Until then you need to rest up, we have work to do when he does return."
"Work? What....work?" Carl yawned and closed his eyes.
"We'll tell you soon enough Carl. But please rest. You will find out your reason for being here in due time. "Shadow looked down to him before slowly walking away.
Tails and Knuckles looked at each other before sitting back down and watching Carl sleep.
"We have to tell him sooner or later Tails. We don't know how much of our conversation he heard." Knuckles spoke quietly so not to wake Carl.
"I know....but he needs to rest, if he doesn't then he won't be prepared."
Chapter 4 - I've Got To Help Her!
Many miles away, Katy woke up and surveyed her surroundings. She appeared to be in a dense forest. It was very dark and she could barely see anything. All she could see was more trees and thick vines at her feet.
“Where am I?” She wondered.
As she tried to get up, she slipped over on one of the vines. Katy tried again, this time using a nearby tree as a support.
She looked upwards and saw several large leaves blocking most of the light.
“What happened?”
Suddenly, there was a noise; a strange noise. Katy turned around and tried to see where it was coming from. It sounded like the wind, except there was nothing moving to show that it was wind.
She turned around and started to run away from the noise, but it seemed to be coming right at her. All of a sudden, she was hit by something hard and hit the ground. Whatever it was had its hand out to her.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Let me help you.” It spoke!
As Katy looked up she saw a blue hedgehog. She screamed and went to run but fell over again.
“Hey, hey, hey! I’m not gonna hurt you! I’m with you… You must be Katy, right?”
“H…How do you know my name?” Katy stammered.
“Well… We brought you here.” Said the hedgehog
“Well, who are… “We?”” Katy enquired.
“Well, for a start, my name is Sonic the Hedgehog.” Sonic smiled at her.
“No…it can’t be. You… you can’t be real!” Katy looked stunned
“Well, I am, and so is everyone else from the world you know…” Sonic began.
“Well, I don’t know you.” Katy looked down “My boyfriend does though!”
“I know. That’s why I need you to come with me. Carl is with us!” Sonic held out his hand and pulled Katy back up again.
“Carl….he’s….here?” Katy looked straight into Sonics’ eyes. “This isn’t a joke is it?”
“No, it isn’t.” He smiled at her before pulling a radio out of his bag “Just gimme a sec” and he winked at Katy. She smiled at him.
“Tails? This is Sonic. I’ve found her!”
“Sonic, is she alright?” Tails voice seemed relieved.
“I think so… You are ok right?” Sonic asked Katy.
Katy nodded slowly.
“Yeah, she’s fine. Don’t worry.”
“Well get back here quickly! We have to start training as soon as possible” Tails seemed worried.
“No problem. Lucky I bought my board with me, or it would take longer. Sonic out.
“Well, it looks like we have to get our skates on… or in this case, my shoes and hoverboard. Sonic smiled and Katy as he pulled out a small board. He pushed a button on it and it extended into a sort of snowboard.
“Just step on here and hold my hand tight…it’ll go fast so don’t let go unless I tell you ok?”
“OK,” Katy said, before she stepped onto the board.
Sonic bent down and fastened the boot straps and then stood next to Katy and held her hand tightly.
“You ready?” He looked at Katy.
“I…I think so.” Katy looked very pale…She had no idea what was going to happen.
Sonic pushed another button and the board hovered a few inches off the ground.
“HERE WE GO!” Sonic shouted and took off at an unimaginable speed, with Katy clinging to Sonic’s hand.
“Are you alright?” Sonic shouted
Katy didn’t answer she just looked straight at Sonic and tried to smile but it looked like she was going to be sick.
“I’ll take that as a “yes” then…” Sonic laughed. “Get ready, we’re almost at the base.”
“O…OK….” Katy shouted.
“LET GO!” Sonic yelled at her.
Katy let go immediately and Sonic tore off around a corner and into a hole in a tree.
“Katy can you hear me?” Sonics voice seemed to be coming from the board!
“Just about. Where did you go? What do I do?” Katy was now very nervous.
“Don’t worry. This is the fun part. In a second you will see a large tree with a red X on it. Run into it.”
“RUN INTO IT?” Katy screamed “ARE YOU CRAZY??”
“Trust me. I know what I’m doing”
“OK… but if this goes wrong…”
“It won’t, I promise.”
Soon enough, Katy saw the tree. She closed her eyes and went straight into it.
Chapter 5 - Rescued!
Katy blasted into the tree and into a secret passageway.
“What the? He was right!” Katy shouted to thin air.
“Of course I was right!” Came Sonic’s voice from beside her. “I believe this is your stop!” Sonic smiled at her and grabbed the bottom of the board and stated to slow it down. As they came to a stop Sonic released the straps.
“Good job we didn’t have to go through the Canyon, or else you would’ve been facing a huge jump!” Sonic told her.
“Well…..thanks Sonic.” Katy said
“What for?” Sonic enquired.
“Finding me and bringing me here of course!”
“Well… it’s no trouble. It’s what we all do!”
“Who are all of you?”
“Heh, I forgot you don’t know anyone here. Except for Carl anyway.”
“Can I see him?” Katy asked.
“I am afraid not Katy.” Came another voice. “He was badly affected by the storm, so he is resting.
As Katy turned around to face the speaker she let out a small scream.
“Do not be alarmed. I won’t hurt you.”
“Shadow! What did I tell you about jumping out on people?”
“My apologies Sonic. I only came to meet our new recruit.”
“Recruit? What are you talking about?” Katy looked shocked.
“We’ll tell you when Carl wakes up. But first you must meet everyone else.”
“There are more of you?”
“Quite a few of us! We need people to help us stop Eggman, so if we find anybody willing to help we sign them up!”
“Ok then. But I don’t see how Carl and I can help?”
“You will see soon enough.” Shadow told her “Now come on, we need to get your quarters sorted out, and you need to meet everyone.”
Chapter 6 - Meeting The Freedom Fighters
"So why did you bring me here anyway?" Katy enquired to Sonic.
"We can't tell you yet." He said
"We will tell you when Carl wakes" Shadow replied
"How long do you think he will need?"
"We don't know for sure. We just need him to take it easy. It seems that the storm we created to bring you here worked a little too well on him." Shadow said.
"Too well? What do you mean? Or can't you tell me that either?" Katy asked
"Well we could, but then we would have to explain it to Carl too.. so if we wait you can learn together.. all I will say is that it is of some great importance that you were brought here." Shadow seemed to be deep in thought over something. Katy didn't want to interfere.
"So who else is here that Carl "knows"?" Katy smiled at Shadow, but Shadow just turned away.
"Well, as far as we know, Carl has at least some information on every Freedom Fighter here!" Sonic told her "But we'll introduce you to everyone so you know who we are, but... they are all like us."
"What do you mean?"
"They are all anthropomorphs"
"I get it... that doesn't bother me.. well, it used to but it doesn't now." Katy smiled at Sonic and Sonic smiled back.
"Here we are" Shadow said making Katy jump. It had been some time since he spoke.
They walked into what seemed like a large hall from the outside, but inside was a series of rooms.
"We'll take you round everyones' rooms and introduce you, then we will take you to where you will be staying, OK?" Sonic said.
"Thats fine with me Sonic!" Katy seemed excited.
"So this is Amy's room." Shadow knocked on the door. There was no reply.
"Amy? You in there?" Sonic shouted through the door.
All of a sudden there was a yell from behind them.
"SSSOOONNNIIICCC!"
And in a blur of pink something attached itself to Sonic hugging him tightly.
"Ha, I new you would come back!"
"Amy..I told you we were coming back later...." Sonic sighed
"I know but.. " She looked at Katy "Is this who you said?" Amy asked
"Yeah. Amy, this is Katy, Katy this is Amy Rose."
Amy straightened herself up and shook hands with Katy.
"Thank you for coming to help!" Amy said gratefully.
"She doesn't know what with yet Amy, were still waiting for Carl to wake up. Which reminds me, can you go check on him for me?" Sonic asked.
"Anything for you Sonic" Amy said dreamily before she walked off towards a large door.
"You can see Carl later Katy, OK?" Sonic said taking Katy's hand again.
"Ok Sonic." Katy said smiling.
"Let's see then. This is Knuckles' room."
Sonic knocked on the door and waited. Then a voice called to them.
"Sonic, is that you?"
"Yeah, its me Knuckles, let us in. There's someone you have to meet."
Standing at the door was a red echidna with big gloves on.
"You must be Katy, right?" Knuckles said.
"Thats right." Katy said shaking his hand "How do you know my name?"
"Carl told us about you when we said you were missing. Then he went back to sleep. In fact the last thing he said was about helping to find you."
"He did?" Katy smiled. "He is so sweet." She continued smiling.
"Well, we hate to do this Knux, but we've got to get round the rest of the Freedom Fighters before nightfall. See ya 'round."
"See ya later Sonic" Knuckles said before closing his door.
"Um, Sonic, what is that?" Katy pointed to a row of boards which seemed to be covering a large hole.
"Oh." Sonic laughed "Knuckles doesn't know his own strength sometimes." Sonic imitated punching and something falling. "He smashed right through the wall and the pieces landed on top of Shadow.. we laughed for days.
"Correction Sonic, YOU laughed for days... I didn't." Shadow said angrily.
"Whatever Shadow...That reminds me... I don't think that you and Shadow have been properly introduced! Shadow, Katy. Katy, Shadow."
"Nice to meet you Shadow."
"Likewise" Shadow shook Katys' hand sharply. "You will have to excuse me Sonic, I have things to do." And with that he just vanished.
"Where...How?" Katy looked around.
"Don't worry. We'll explain later. I think that Tails' is the only room left to visit. All the others are on a mission in the training room."
Sonic reached the third door in the room and knocked on it. There was a strong smell of oil in the air.
"Tails, its me!" Sonic called.
"Great, I have something to show you!" A young boys voice came back through the door.
As the door opened, Katy saw a young fox with two tails.
"Hey Tails, this is Katy. Katy. This is Miles Prower.. but all his friends call him "Tails""
Katy shook Tails' hand
"So which do I call you then?" Katy asked.
"You are helping us, so you're my friend" Tails grinned. "You call me Tails!"
"OK Tails. Er, what's that?" Katy pointed to a helmet on the table of Tails house...but it looked more like a workshop.... tools, pieces of metal and wood lay everywhere.
"That? Thats is for the training room. Thats what I need Sonic for. I'm having problems with the system..It wont lign up with the other helmets... I wondered if i could use some of your tools?"
Sonic looked at Katy
"Tails and I are the resident mechanics... we fix and make things to help us against Eggman." He said, before turning back to face Tails "Sure buddy, I don't mind!"
"Thanks Sonic! I'll go fetch them now!" Tails smiled at him before running off with his twin tails rotoring away behind him.
"While we're at it, why don't you see my room too, then I'll see what's keeping Amy."
"Ok Sonic, you lead the way." Katy said
Sonic lead Katy through a passageway and out into a small corridor with only 3 rooms in it.
"The one on the left is yours, the one on the right is Carl's and the middle is mine." Sonic explained... Don't worry if you cant find it, I'll give you and Carl maps for the complex later.
"Can I see my room then?" Katy asked excitedly.
"Sure." Sonic handed her a card. "This will get you into Carls, yours and my rooms. Just in case anything happens ok?"
"OK Sonic." Katy took the card and headed to her room.
She walked up to the door and it opened automatically.
Katy gasped.
Her room seemed so small on the outside, but inside it was huge. There were various pieces of equipment marked "DO NOT TOUCH" written on them and her bed with a window looking out onto everyone elses rooms.
There was a knock at the door.
"May I come in?" It was Shadows' voice.
"Of course Shadow!"
The door opened and Shadow stood in the doorway. He seemed different.
“What’s wrong Shadow?”
“Nothing, but I thought you ought to know… Carl has woken up and he is asking for you.”
