Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooook! XD
This is going to be painful to write all these notes, but I gotta. So, let's get to it!! @_@
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the century 763, Rome was founded by two brothers. What were their names?:
Romulus & Remus.
According to the legend of Rome, Romulus and Remus were raised by what as children?:
They were raised by a lupus(she-wolf).
Rome was divided by a wall for Romulus and Remus, both having their own territory. Remus jumped the wall, crossing into his brother's area, and managed to betray Romulus. What price to Remus pay?:
He paid with death. Romulus kills Remus--which resembles Cain and Able in the Bible.
Name two important writers of Roman culture:
Plautus & Terence.
Plautus, 254-184, was a writer of Roman comedy, which we refer to as what?:
Atellan Farces.
The Atellan Farces evolved into Low comedy, like sitcoms today. How many did Plautus write during his lifetime?:
At least 130 comedies.
Terence, 183-159, was brought to the city of Carthage as a slave during the...what?:
3 Punic Wars. Carthage was against Rome.
What was the name of the Roman citizens that wrote for Terence?:
Scipio--which wrote Terence's 6 plays.
Roman people were not cultural people despite their impressive buildings and technology. Because they had no culture of their own, Terence became a plaigarist and stole Greek works to give culture to the Romans. He wrote High Roman comedy, which is...?:
Intellectual, clevar writing.
Plautus was more Canticum, Terence was more Diverbium. Terence is very important(though a plaigarist) because he was originally from...?:
Africa, which has tons of culture connected to it.
Hroswitha(female) was a major writer for interpreting church documents. Men writers use her ideas. People from what age steal her and Terence's writings?:
People from the Renaissance era.
A philospher, a statemen and a writer of Roman tragedy plays wrote the famous Phaedra. What was his name?:
Senecca.
Snuff plays were dramatic creations that killed people on stage, mainly criminals, to recreate events. "The Fire", which burned actors/actresses on the final act of the play, was formed by?:
Nero.
What is the definition of naumachia?:
Naumachia - is a naval, gladiator battle. The colliseum was filled with water and the gladiators would take down each other's boats for entertainment.
What is the definition of ventationes?:
Ventationes - gladiator huntings, the colliseum is transformed into a hunting ground and gladiators kill wild animals for the fun of it--and thousands of animals, which made the colliseum reek with rotting corpses.
NOTE TO SELF: The Romans were extremely uncivilized people. They enjoyed viewing blood and gore, it was a part of life back then. Gladiators, plays and a vomitorium were usual everyday parts of life. And thank goodness I'm not living in that time... >_<
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes for that are finished. Not too long, thankfully. Hope ya' learned something, even though some of that is not pleasant to learn. XD
