So here's the deal, I want to write a horror novel but I need some idea's. I don't want it to be a gore fest, Amityville Horror wasn't as scary as The Grudge. It will involve supernatural killing by some sort of evil source though. For example, I had an idea while doing my work experiance. A guy is taking the stock from the shop he works at back to the freezer. Now this is a big freezer to fit all the stuff inside and it is COLD. As he walks in the lights all smash for no reason. He drops the stock and runs to the heavy door but it slams shut and the inside handle twists itself so he can't escape. He then dies from the frost. Other than that, I don't have much, so I was wondering on your ideas. What is truly scary to you?

Man fears what it can't protect it self from. Man fears anything they can't control. Man fears what they can't understand. Something like that anyways.

lol nice analogy there Seribii. I dunno what fear is. It's something you can't face. Or ylou can't defeat. It's an unbeatable thing.

Nasty... Anyhow. One fear is the unknown. Making it obvious that a character HAS perished, but not revealing what they saw before they died. Lack of knowledge makes people uneasy. You can't defend yourself without knowledge. Also, somehow linking the 'monster' to a common sound/object (Like a ticking clock) makes the reader nervous, because it feels as if they're in the story. I mean, with the Weeping Angels, they weren't that creepy by themselves. However, Steven Moffat worked on the idea that you can't focus on something forever, you HAVE to blink. Therefore, it makes the monster inescapable, something you can't defend yourself against.

RSearchie told me that, every so often, her ankle hurts again, but it's fine. Ignore me if I get it wrong... As I always get things wrong, like on my rpg stories...
I have a weird fear of swimming in the sea. I have a fear OF the sea!!! Paddling's okay, but when I step out of the sea onto the sand, I hate it when it sticks onto your feet, and you have to wait for it to dry up for ages. I hate swimming, because I'm scared that I will be swept helplessly out into the open, with no land in sight. There are a lot of crabs where I live, and the seawater tastes horrible. I don't like swimming in the sea.
I'm scared of spiders. Not the tiny ones, but the great big ones with hairy legs that move very quickly, and when you tell your parents where they are, it's gone. I picked up a t-shirt with a spider hiding under it, and SCREAMED.
Call me weird, but I'm not scared of heights, but I'm scared at looking UP at tall buildings! I never try to realise how tall Canterbury Cathedral is, because I hate looking up at the roof. I've had that phobia ever since Dad played a bit in Tr3, and there were spikes coming down from the ceiling, and they kept on getting Dad. I never saw him pass that bit.
