Two new resident evil and silent hill games are coming out soon and seeing how only their plot really differes it seemed like a good idea to ask everyone what they think is the best survival horror series.
RESIDENT EVIL Umbrella creating T-virus, racoon city infected. Fight for survival as zombies attack.
Resi 1, 2, 3, Zero, Code veronica, survivor, dead aim, outbreak, 4, resident evil 5 (TBC 2009)
SILENT HILL Some person loses their child and searches the town of silent hill for it, PERIOD!
silent hill 1, 2, 3, 4: the room, origins, silent hill 5

Dude, you didn't really do Silent Hill justice there Timewarp.
I'm voting for Silent Hill, purely because I'm far more impressed by the complicated storylines of each, than by Resident Evil, who so far, have only had one game that's notably different (Resident Evil 4).
Anyhow, only the first Silent Hill had a guy looking for his daughter - The others pay no relelvance to that whatsoever. It'd be like me saying every Resident Evil game revolves around a special ops team exploring a lab under a mansion. It's not true.
The thing is, and I hate to say it - But Resident Evil is less scary than Silent Hill. Silent Hill is a psycological horror, meaning that it isn't your average run-of-the-mill shoot-everything-till-it-dies type thing. It's the fear that, just around the corner, you're gonna be gored to death by some indescribably horrific creature - Not a Spanish Villager with tentacles coming out of his head *Cough*ResidentEvil4*Cough*. And apparently, features a large amount of puzzles - Certainly more than Resident Evil.
... Also, the soundtracks are better. Ever heard Silent Hill music? It's great!
Anyhow, here's a rundown of the plotlines! Silent Hill - A father searching for his daughter in a town fused with a demonic realm. Silent Hill 2 - A man searching for his wife, who sent him a letter, though she has meant to have died years ago. Silent Hill 3 - A girl has to escape a dangerous cult and make her way through Silent Hill, answering questions of her origin. Silent Hill 4: The Room - Like Resident Evil 4, this one's a spinoff one that breaks the mould, as it doesn't feature Silent Hill, but instead, a guy trapped in a cursed haunted apartment, being stalked through nightmarish world by the spirit of a psycopath. Silent Hill: Origins - A prequal to the first. A truck driver enters Silent Hill, and is forced to fight for a way to escape. Basically designed for players of the first game, due to a lotta references. Silent Hill 5: A guy searching for his brother. No ideas otherwise, but the settings I have seen are like an old abanonded factory.
So there. Silent Hill, in a nutshell.

if you play more resident evil then you'll know that Resi 4 isn't a spin-off. Sheesh how many times do i have to tell you haunter, if you play all the way though then there's this scene where jack krauser (one of the main villians in Resi 4 and part of bravo team in the original reisdent evil
states "All for umbrella's sake" meaning that the virus in resi 4 is going to be used in the series. Resident evil 5 is part of the series too and as capcom states will be a follow-on of resident evil 4.
put it all together haunter what does that mean. That resident evil 4 would have to be part of the series for resident evil 5 to be part of it and follow on from Resi 4 AT the same time. . .
Silent hill has the same plot. Somebody goes missing so this person goes in to find them. As far as the horror element goes, yeah silent hill is miles ahead of resi but when it comes to plots there's none better then resident evil.
Capcome are gods among men when it comes to making horror games!

Ugh, they're not all about someone looking for someone else. They've all got significantly different plotlines, and if you bothered to read up on things before you criticised their storylines, you'd know that. Besides, Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill 4: The Room and Silent Hill: Origins don't even feature searching for someone - The girl on the fourth just sorta comes with you halfway when she gets trapped in the nightmare worlds too.
I mean, I could say, Resident Evil is just the same plotline repeated, as 'all of them are about someone going into a place and finding loads of zombies and having to shoot their way out'.
Resident Evil 4 IS a spinoff, as: 1 - No zombies, which is what Resident Evill is famous for. Only mutant Spanish Villagers. 2 - No direct links to Umbrella Corp. Only references are made, like how Torchwood references Doctor Who. 3 - Even if it plays some part storyline-wise, so did Torchwood. And Torchwood is a spinoff. 4 - Leon is only one of the many Resident Evil heroes/heroines. As such, him playing part in another game ain't so special, as others have been used twice (For example, Claire Redfield was re-used before Leon, in a game which had Umbrella in it). 5 - No T-Virus. T-Virus is the staple for Resident Evil games. The 'Las Plagas is a mind-controlling parasite, which will probably, just as a vague attempt to link the games, have been 'used to make an improved T-Virus'. This don't quite count a strong enough link to take Resident Evil 4 out of spinoff status, no matter what Capcom like to think.
And no, Capcom aren't the best at making horror games, since horror games are by genre scary games, then you yourself admitted it - Konami is better, as Silent Hill is more scary. Horror's all about fear factor. Figures.

capcom have been making horror since the dawn of time haunter. NEVER DISS CAPCOM!
I did research the silent hill storylines, i did. For me it sounded too familiar to games such as alone in the dark which is a LEGAND! If your basing this of one game then your sadly mistaken. The resident evil series is more then just shut up the zombies and run,
the whole series started with the T-Virus, the idea was that it cured cancer by bringing the dead cells back to life. The only problem was that a human without a soul is a zombie and therefore it was more of a virus then a cure.
One of the original scientist (The man who created it to beguin with) was dismissed for the creation and so he got he's revenge by unleashing the T-Virus onto the mansion that it was created in. S*T*A*R*S sent in a team only to have the zombies kill them all leaving only jack krauser (presumed dead at this time) alive.
Jack krauser would then go on to make a deal with salvador. The virus in resident evil 4 is intended to be used along WITH the T-virus, umbrella was experimenting with differant virus's to create the type of monsters you see in resident evil 4 hence the giant lab.
Regenerators are in the resident evil series. Sorry haunter but nobody disses resident evil when i'm around. I never said anything else about silent hill was rubbish just that the plot-lines are familiar and it was easier to round it up.
It wasen't like i actually went full out war on silent hill, i like the games but i just don't like them. Seriously, stop with the insults. I NEVER INSULTED SILENT HILL!
If you like it that much that your going to be rude to your friend then sure it's better why do i care. You should really look up plotlines for resident evil they have a lot of good zombies and for the record before claiming that capcom suck at psychological horror look up a game called
FORBIDDEN SIREN!

I never insulted Resident Evil, sheesh! I just said that Resident Evil 4 was a spinoff and listed the reasons why, and don't you dictate the storyline of Resident Evil to me - I already know it.
... Besides, it has nothing to do with people without souls becoming zombies - It's down to a degrading of brain tissue.
Anyhow, why are you becoming so defensive of the Resident Evil games? You only have the fourth game. And before you ask, I was defending Silent Hill because your initial description of it made it sound lame compared to Resident Evil, and no one except us two know about both Resident Evil and Silent Hill. I wasn't out to insult you or Resident Evil, so don't accuse me of doing what I didn't. All I said was that Capcom weren't the God's of horror games. Because horror is all down to O-P-I-N-I-O-N. So quit venting school-induced frustration out on me - I didn't make this thread that was quite clearly gonna cause arguments.

Ok I may be younger than both of you, but you need to stop fighting. I don't like it. (even though I do it myself) lol. I have never played any of them games, apart from Silent Hill, which I didn't like.I'm not a horror fan.
so yeah, stop fighting, otherwise I'll get Chronos to send you TW to the future, and you Haunter to the past!

Dang, I really blew up...
Let's just call it quits and say both games are good in different ways, suited for different audiences, and that arguing ain't gonna do squat about it.
Sorry for offending you Timewarp.

Hey i would have wrote more but i don't know that much about silent hill and i know a heck of a lot about resident evil. I've watched someone play the second. Played the fourth. Seen 2 of the movies (1st and 2nd).
I never would have even started having a go at silent hill had you not gone all "You don't do silent hill justice", Kinda pi$$es me off the whole "I'll correct you but at the same time be rude and arrogant about it" Not saying ya meant too but. . .
The whole thing kinda remainds me how i told off cap shock and CS15 for aruging when i'm being as petty as they are, sheesh kinda makes me feel rude now.
Also the capcom is the gods of horror thing, that was opioun, my opioun though i proberly should have made that more clear. Also CS15 why don't you apolgish to cap shock i'm sure he's just as willing to do the same.

Don't worry about it. We both kinda did the same to each other. Appreantly some time after resident evil 5 was released. Capcom were accused of being racist, people have been saying that having black zombies in a game is wrong which is a bunch of bull-honkey
Seriously!
Main series - American zombies Code verioaca - English zombies Resi 4 - Spanish zombies (The ganadoes are similar to zombies so i'll put that)
I don't get why you can understand though that capcom want to expend from the T-Virus, thats why resident evil 4 was differant. If they didn't it would be bland and boring
Resident evil does have some classic moments like - Bravo team member being eaten alive - A certain characters death scene in Resi 4 (Won't say who but it is quite sad) - The Laser Corridor
I might get a 360 just so i can play resident evil 5! ^_^!

Wait - They actually ARE having black tribesman zombies for Resident Evil 5? I thought Toadette was joking!
Chris: This is like fighting the fuzzy-wuzzies all over again... Claire: Um... What are fuzzy-wuzzies? Leon: They're like gremlins, only fuzzier, wuzzier, and they can be pacified temporarily if you spill a bag of rice, as they have to count every piece. Claire: Isn't that rice thing meant to work on Jiang Shi? Leon: Shut up you nerd! Nemesis: I wanna make a comeback! T_T
