Here we go again! XD It's time for another Pysh Test! This Tuesday I'll be taking my 2nd test in Psychology, so I'm gonna list my notes here and print them just like before. HOWEVER...it's different this time. I actually have a few days to do this, not one. XD ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Psychology Test 2 What is the definition of memory?:Memory - an active system that receives, stores and retrieves info. What is semantic memory?:Semantic memory is all the info we learn from education. What's the definition of flashbulb memories?:Flashbulb Memories - type of autonomic encoding in memory due to strong emotions. (Ex. is 9/11, attack on New York and the end of the World Trade Centers.) What is chunking?:Chunking is bits of info combined into meaningful knowledge. We use this to learn something a little at a time. What is Alzheimer's Disease?:Alzheimer's Disease is associated with anterograde amnesia and it causes permanent loss of memory. What is the definition of thinking?: Thinking - mental activity that goes through the brain, sorting of info. What is Piaget's Theory, the 4 stages of cognitive development?:1). Sensorimotor Stage(infancy to age 2) - Children explore the world using their senses and ability to move. They develop object permanence and the understanding that concepts and mental images represent objects, people and events. 2). Preoptional Stage(age 2 to 7) - Young children can mentally represent and refer to objects and events with words or pictures, they can also pretend. However, they can't conserve, logically reason or simultaneously consider many characteristics of an object. 3). Concrete Operational Stage(age 7 to 12) - Children are able to conserve, reverse their thinking and classify objects in terms of their many characteristics. They can also think logically and understand analogies, but they can't use abstract thinking. 4). Formal Operational Stage(agw 12 to adulthood) - People can use abstract thinking about hypothetical events or situations , think about logical possibilities, use abstract thinking and systematically examine and test hypotheses. Not everyone can eventually reason in these ways. What is the definition of object permanence?:Object Permanence - the knowledge that an object exists even when it is not in sight. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ugh... I'll write more later on tonight. I got a headache... ~_~

Yes this a psychology test. And, yes, my tests are hard and should be hard - I'm in college, afterall. XD Psychology is not just mental, but also physical. Your body and mind work together, ya' know? ;]
Ok, time to type up more notes. I may be even to do them all tonight, hopefully. :]

Stage 1 - Average about 10 minutes. In this stage, a person gets drowzy and dozes off due to the brain producing waves called alpha waves.
Stage 2 - As long as 20 minutes. In this stage, the alpha waves eventually become slow, larger waves called theta waves.
Stage 3 - As long as 40 minutes. Theta waves become delta waves, the slowest and largest appearing brain waves.
Stage 4 - As long as 30 to 40 minutes. This is the deepest stage of sleep. Delta waves are still present. After this stage, REM(Rapid Eye Movement) begins.

Ok, I'm back. :] There are 4 essay questions 2 of which I get to choose to do completely. Out of the 4, I choose Choice #2 & #3. that will explain why there's only 2. XD
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Choice # 2:
Down in the Valley of the “Depressants”
Name at least TWO types (common names) of drugs that fall under this category which can also include BENZODIAZEPINES or BARBITURATES.
Valium and Xanax.
Tell me what role GABA plays in the use of these types of drugs?:
As minor tranquilizers, they treat sleep problems, nervousness and anxiety.
Which gender is more affected by use of depressants?:
Female.
What types of behavior does the drug cause and what affects is a person likely to see on this drug?:
These drugs cause the decrease of anxiety and stress. You would most likely see on the drugs the risk of addiction, danger if large doses are taken and shouldn't be taken with alcohol or any other drugs.
Is this drug likely to cause dependence or addiction to the person using it?:
Valium and Xanax could cause both dependence and addiction. If taken on a regular basis, addiction could start. If the pattern is not stopped, eventually dependence would occur.
Choice # 3:
The Narcotics
Name at least THREE types (names) of drugs that fall under this category of psychoactive drugs. Tell me the ways in which you would go about consuming these types of drugs. Also where or how are these drugs produced?:
Alcohol, Nicotine and Caffeine. Alcohol can be consumed through the mouth and so can caffeine. However, nicotine is taken into the body through smoking it, breathing it in and also through nicotine patches.
Which of the type of narcotics are the “MOST POWERFUL” and “MOST ADDICTIVE”?
The most powerful and most addictive narcotic is heroin.
What neurotransmitter is “turned off” because of this type of drug which later results in the person’s feeling overall “pain”?
Endorphins.
Is the drug likely to cause dependence or addiction to the person using it? Explain your answer, why or why not? Include key factors such as HOW this type of drug affects the person.
Heroin can cause both dependence and addiction. Heroin doesn't have many of the disagreeable side effects as morphine, making it more prone to use with pain. Addiction can start this way. Dependence is far worse though. Heroin turns off the neurotransmitters called endorphins, relieving pain. When the drug wears off, however, there is no protection against any kind of pain , caausing severe symptoms of withdrawal associated with the drug. The addict will most likely become dependent by taking more of the drug to relieve the unbearable pain the drug caused in the first place.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's that time! ^_^ Time to print all this out so I can study, study, study tomorrow. XD FINALLY!

WHOA! Hey, Jett, that's awesome! This is hard stuff, but I like it too. ^_^ Once you get to college, you could take a Psychology class. And TLCR is where I type up all my notes(even for other classes), so you can always take a peek and see what it's like. I was homeschooled for 6 years before, this is my first year at college. Despite the hard work, I really like it. :] And it's nice that I'm taking two courses I like: Psychology and Graphic Design. I'm taking 3 courses at college and one at home, which is Math. XD Anyways, that's great! I'm glad I could spark some interest in you just by writing my notes down. ^_^ I'll have more tests, I'm sure, so check out my next notes if you'd like. But, Assassin, Blaze, thouhair... I do understand your feelings too. This stuff gets hard and pretty deep. Thing is, you have to memorize it all for the test. The textbooks are much more informative, but these are what will be ON the test - I have a nice teacher. XD But, I think I'll do fine since I WANT to learn this stuff. That's why I took up the course, because I wanted to understand us humans better. :] All I ask is for your good wishes and prayers. I'm going in!

FM5, Jett finds this interesting because he finds GCSEs too easy, and A-levels too easy, this stuff I am not sure about, but he likes it because he now knows there's someone else near his age that understands it... Which is good....

I understand, Blaze. Yeah, it is complex, but it's not impossible to learn. Main thing is that you have to WANT to learn it - and I do. :] Hey, Zigs. ^_^ So, that's why Jetts likes it, huh? I see. Well, I can understand that, some just need more challenges than others. :] That's cool. And it rocks to hear that he's glad I understand these things. That made my day! WELL... Today is today and I have already taken my test. I feel like I ACED that test! I'm so happy! I went in with no question about what I knew and I answered the problems with relative ease. I feel like I only got one thing wrong - and not the entire problem incorrect. I feel great! ^_^
