(Note: If you like Nabooru, stayed tuned. This bit's good if I say so myself!
)
A chilling breeze woke her.
She struggled to her feet, and looked around.
She saw what she had tripped on… a step.
Fortunately, the sandstorm was over.
But why hadn’t the leevers eaten her?
Then she noticed that she was standing hard tiled ground.
Leevers couldn’t dig into, nor even move across hard ground.
Looking up, she saw… a statue. A massive statue, of the goddess of the sands.
She smiled.
The colossus.
She had made it.
She entered slowly.
The spirit temple was an ancient place, built long ago by the ancestors of the Gerudo race.
It was said to be full of dangerous traps and terrible monsters.
She removed the rough blanket, which was well worn down thanks to the sandstorm.
Now that the blanket was gone, she was more ready for the next challenges.
Attached to her hip was the Gerudo cutlass, which she could wield with skill. But her personal weapon of choice was strapped to her back, far too long to carry at her side.
A Gerudo spear. Though the average weapon for any Gerudo, very few could wield it with the speed and skill needed to defeat groups of monsters quickly and effectively.
Nabooru was one who could.
She pulled it off of her back and held it at the ready.
You couldn’t be too careful when entering a dungeon crawling with monsters.
She was pretty sure that the missing Gerudo was somewhere in this temple.
It was finding her that would be the problem.
She slowly walked up a small flight of stairs in the first room, and encountered a statue, shaped like a piece from a board game.
Remembering the stories she had heard about the Armoses, (Statues that came to life when touched) she kept clear.
She looked around.
To her left was a small gap she couldn’t hope to crawl through.
To her right was a doorway, which must have weighed a ton.
She sighed.
The gap it was then.
She winced as she finally crawled out of the gap.
How she had managed to get through was a miracle for her, but she had scraped her knees pretty bad.
Looking around, she could see many traps waiting, but fortunately, they all had been shut down by the gerudo people, for safety reasons.
Unfortunately, some traps couldn’t be shut down.
She stepped forward, and heard a gruff, laugh sound. Well, more of a deep chuckle actually.
She spun around, but whatever it was dropped down right in front of her from above with a heavy thud.
She gasped.
A stalfos!
The skeleton soldier drew its blood blade, and held its shield ready.
Unexpectedly, it leapt forward with a mighty slash.
Just about dodging to the right, she quickly countered with her Gerudo spear, slashing its legs.
The stalfos staggered, and before it could recover, she slashed it across the neck area, cutting its skull clean off.
A critical hit for a human, but not a stalfos.
Charging around, headless, and swinging its blade in every direction hoping to hit her, the stalfos was still lethal, though now a little pathetic.
Ducking around its blade, Nabooru swung her spear in a curving slash, separating its legs. With an unnatural groan, the stalfos collapsed into a pile of bones.
She wiped the sweat off her forehead.
That was lucky. That stalfos was an old one, so it’s bone were weaker.
She hoped that she wouldn’t find a new stalfos…
She gasped as she got through the door.
That had been close!
She had only just escaped a group of 3 stalfos. By far, it was too close.
She grimaced at the wound across the back of her leg, which stung because sand had gotten into it. She’d get it cleaned up again when she got back.
She was on a balcony, in the right side of a room known as the main temple.
A massive statue of the goddess of sands was the main feature of this room.
This was where the Gerudos prayed to get their… ‘gifts’.
Looking around the room, she spotted Halroda. She was seemingly unconscious, lying in front of the statue.
Hopping over the railing of the balcony, Nabooru raced toward the fallen Gerudo, but stopped when she heard something. A clicking noise of multiple legs.
She looked around. The clicking noise was approaching, but from where…?
Then, she noticed some small grains of sand, coming down from above.
Something was on the ceiling.
She looked up, but the ceiling was shrouded with shadows.
She then realised that Halroda was unconscious and defenceless.
She dashed forward and scooped the Gerudo off the floor.
There was a massive crash behind her.
Nabooru turned round, and gasped.
A scorfiana!
The closest relative to Gohmas, these giant scorpions were covered in armour that her Gerudo spear wouldn’t pierce, and their giant pincers could smash through the walls of Gerudo fortress with ease.
She turned to the exit, but the scorfiana blocked the way with one of its pincers.
The other pincer blocked the other way out.
She was cornered!
It held back its long, needle-pointed stinger, ready to pierce of flesh.
Nabooru gulped, and whispered.
“Please Goddess of sands, I really could do with help here…”The stinger lunged, but by luck, (Or something else) it just about missed.
Nabooru breathed a sigh of relief, and as the scorfiana tugged to free its stinger from the wall, she jumped on to its head, ran across its back, and dashed for the balcony, and began to climb on to it again.
The scorfiana was slowly beginning to free itself.
She climbed over the balcony just as the monster freed itself.
It gave an angry roar, that sounded more like a collection of unsoundly clicks, then scuttled after her in hot pursuit.
Nabooru carried the Gerudo up a staircase, narrowly avoiding the monster’s claws, threw open the door at the top.
She dashed through a hall lined with pillars. The scorfiana followed, smashing through the wall after her.
She dashed out of the temple, and then skidded to a halt.
She was standing on the right hand of the colossus at the entrance, quite high above the ground.
She was wondering how to get off when angry grunting and clicking of the creature began to come very close.
Holding her breath, she jumped.
And landing sent shocks through her legs, to her body, and through her brain.
It was numbing, and made her feel a bit giddy.
She lay Halroda down and looked up, to see the angry scorfiana grunting and clicking on the colossus’ hand, before turning back to its lair.
She guessed that the Spirit Temple would be out-of-bounds for a while…
She scooped Halroda up again, and began the slow and painful journey back to the Gerudo Fortress.
